Cultural Enrichment
Wingmasters
Grades K and 4 had the opportunity to learn about birds of prey through the first PTO-sponsored enrichment program at SES. Wingmasters is a partnership of two licensed raptor rehabilitators dedicated to increasing public understanding and appreciation of North American birds of prey. Students got to see real birds of prey, some of which can be found in the woods surrounding the school! The PTO hopes to bring this program to grade K (just starting SES) and grade 4 (ending SES) each year!

Acton Discovery Center
3rd graders experienced hands-on science fun with PTO-sponsored workshops from the Acton Discovery Center. The students became weather and climate scientists as they learned about average weather changes over time.
They made suggestions of what they would pack if they were going in between Phoenix and Boston due to the different climates. Using a limited quantity of supplies, they built a prototype structure to keep a fuzzy friend dry in the rainiest place on earth. Students had the opportunity to test their prototypes with a watering can!
Arts for Learning — Kathaka
Today all grades had the chance to watch a PTO-sponsored performance from a Kathaka dancer from India via Arts for Learning MA. Early November was the five-day festival of Diwali, India's celebration of lights. This program was timed to align with this important holiday!
The ancient art of Kathak is one of the eight forms of Indian classical dance. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word for “story.” Kathak dancers use rapid footwork and graceful gestures to tell traditional Indian stories with upbeat rhythms, captivating choreography, and improvisation. Students had the opportunity to learn some basic Kathak dance steps.
