Room Parent FAQ
What is a Room Parent?
As a room parent, your role is to:
Coordinate parties/events – help organize and oversee classroom celebrations (with a limit of three parent volunteers per party).
Arrange/purchase teacher gifts for the holidays and Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8, 2026).
Request a teacher “wishlist” of class needs (books, games, an Amazon wish list, or gift cards).
Liaise between the PTO, teachers, and parents – attend PTO meetings as you’re able and share updates with families.
Room Parent Sign-Up
Sign-ups will open the week of September 8th and will come from the school through Parent Square. All interested parents may sign up, and room parents will then be randomly selected
Principal Sanborn has requested a limit of three (3) room parents per class. T
Class Party Volunteers
Each class party will be limited to three (3) parent volunteers.
You do not have to be a room parent to volunteer at classroom parties—room parents will coordinate the parties and recruit volunteers as needed.
Volunteer Requirements
All classroom volunteers must have an active CORI form on file. CORI forms can be found in ParentSquare.
Class Parties
The PTO will not be funding classroom parties this year. Room parents will instead help coordinate by creating SignUpGenius (or similar) links for supplies and activities. Families will be encouraged to sign up and contribute where they can. No food is allowed to be served in the classroom.
Party Planning
Each party should have a theme and a list of needed items. Links should be shared in advance so everyone has an opportunity to participate. The three classroom parties are the Halloween Party, a Holiday Party, and a Valentine’s Day Party. Exact dates are coordinated with the school administrators around 30 days out from the event date.
Teacher Gifts
You may choose how and when to collect donations for teacher gifts. Some families collect early in the year, while others wait until just before the holidays or Teacher Appreciation Week. A suggested contribution is $30 per family for the year, but families should always give what they feel comfortable with.
